“I treat each piece of furniture as if it’s for myself”: Stuart on mastering the art of upholstery.

With over 40 years as a master Upholsterer, there’s not much Stuart doesn’t know about cutting and sewing fabric to make beautiful furniture. From running his own business, to working for some of the biggest names in the industry, Stuart joined us in 2022 to strengthen our technical skill set.
With such vast experience, Stuart loves helping others with technical problems, gently suggesting new ways which might work.
‘I take my time and treat each piece as if its for myself’. Scoot being one of his favourite chairs to cut and sew, it has such fine lines but it’s complicated.
‘Listen to what others have to say, never shrug anything off, you may need that snippet in time’. Picking a good mentor is key when you’re learning, it takes up to 3 years to be proficient so every person you work with can pass skill onto you, soak it up!
